Mad Love

-Grubbing in Chicago
New to the 'Scene'

Mad Love is one of the many hip Thai places to open this past year. It's a trend that most of the nation has taken too and unfortunately most of it isn't worth the hype. It's not that all of these spots are awful it's just that because they know how to play the game they do stuff like have instagrammers come in and eat and tell them how good the food is. The same instagrammers that wont take the time to brace a place with their presence should that spot have zero social media skill. Before I ramble on further let me just say that some places need to focus in on the food and worry about the other stuff later.

Mad Love might be guilty of what I talked about above as they come around at a time lots of Southeast Asian food is getting dumbed down. Unfortunately they kind of follow that trend and supply the neighborhood with what I will admit is fresh cooked food but there's just something missing. I tried the lemongrass chicken bowl and didn't think there was much difference in this and whatever I ate from ShopHouse the new Chipotle backed Southeast Asian chain. It just felt like the flavors were dumbed down for the neighborhood. It wasn't awful or inedible it was just pretty unexciting and that's pretty much the last word one would ever use to describe Southeast Asian food.
