Burgers and Pizza in BucktownSometimes I get backed up enough to where I totally forget to post about a place. That's kind of what happened with The Stop Along on Milwaukee avenue in Bucktown. It opened a couple years ago when the area over there by where the 303 passes over started to bloom. They're first and foremost a pizzeria but also a bar and one with a pretty fantastic burger at that. More on that in a minute.

The theme at The Stop Along is 1980's childhood nostalgia. This can be attributed to a number of things including the memorabilia stacked up on the walls behind the bar. They also have a little one off video game room where kids and adults alike can play popular 1980's arcade games. Then there's the pizza. It's an East Coast NY like style and all of them are named after 80's movies and shows. I like the Winnie from Wonder Years options which pairs pepperoni with banana peppers. It's bomb.

As good as the pizza is the burger might be better. I first noticed it when they put up a billboard shortly after opening. They chose to advertise their burger as the best on the block. An obvious shot at Small Cheval down the street. The #NAHCHEVAL hashtag made it obvious they had an opinion on the matter. Well they're opinion is one I share. Not only is this griddle smashed burger with special sauce the best on the block it's one of the best in all of Chicago and it's found at a pizza parlor. To me this is another ode to old school 1980's as I've come across quite a few 80's type Midwest pizzerias where the burger is the most popular item. The Stop-In Burger as it's called has a little bit of a Southern Cali style going on as well with it being a double with special sauce, lettuce, and tomato. Some caramelized onions and American cheese round it all out. A top notch neighborhood place.
