Same Day Cafe

An Elevated Soda Fountain in Logan Square

I’ve been to as many restaurants in Chicago as anyone so you’d figure I’ve been everywhere in my own neighborhood. But that’s not the case. Actually there’s handfuls of spots in Logan Square that I have yet to visit. I think the fact that they’re close makes me put them off even though it should be the other way around. Well anyway I recently tried Same Day Cafe on Kedzie for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. I never hear much about this elevated soda fountain that doubles as a diner. I stopped by one late afternoon and enjoyed a delicious meal on their patio which is right in front.

Same Day Cafe has a lunch and a dinner menu with diner classics served up on both of them. The reason for my visit was bc we needed a spot to eat with my young nieces and Same Day Cafe was my pick. It’s a good spot to visit with kids as the menu is filled with fun things including an outstanding crumble made with Midwest grown peaches and blackberries. Same Day Cafe sources lots of their ingredients from regional farms and cooperatives. This was likely a special based on the fruits being in season. Special indeed. I love a good crumble with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. 


Peach / Berry Crumble 

Since it was still lunchtime we went ahead and ordered a couple sandwiches to go with our dessert which the girls asked for first. We tried a curry chicken salad and peak of the season BLT, each built on their made in-house toasted rosemary bread. These were both super solid sandwiches. We also got an order of giardiniera potatoes that worked well in place of potato chips. It took me way too long to visit this cute little spot in the heart of Logan Square where they also have a really good pastry program as well as a full fledged soda fountain with house made phosphates on offer. The perfect ex. of a great neighborhood eating option and gosh does Logan Square have a ton, more to come.
